This DVD targets the beginner/intermediate exerciser and if you're new to Cathe should be your first purchase from us. The workouts included with this DVD are:

Basic Step: This workout was designed to help the exerciser that is new to Cathe and to step aerobics . Basic Step is a 35 minute basic step routine that will hold the interest and truly challenge the beginner stepper for many workouts to come and is the official training DVD for all Step Company steps . While creating this workout, I made sure that basic steps were introduced, taught and put into combinations in a way that made the beginner have to focus and think, but not overwhelm them. Unlike teaching a live beginner class where each and every workout can change to provide further challenge to the participant, a DVD workout does not have that flexibility. For this reason, I have chosen to teach the moves but not over teach them, thereby giving the beginner stepper a new challenge to work towards every time they do the workout. Here is the breakdown:
Warm Up: The warm of this workout is about 6 minutes and contains basic steps, V-steps, alternating knees, repeater, corner to corner moves, rock horse, L-steps, A-steps, turn steps (horseshoe), leg extensions, charleston kicks, and stretches.
Combo#1:
We immediately go right into the first combination. Since this first combination comes right out of the warm up, I teach it a little longer than I typically would consider doing. This helps to establish confidence in the beginner stepper. After completing the finished product we do a perceived exertion test.
Combo 2: This is a little more complex and will probably take the beginner a couple of tries to master. We introduce knees around the world, cha’cha’s on the corner, and rock horse along with some other moves. After completing combo two we do another perceived exertion test and a light cool down. This workout concludes with a stretch.

Basic Step Format: Warm- up 7 min., step combo one 9 min., step combo two 11 min.. , Stretch 3 min., Total = 30 min

Body Fusion: It is approximately a 50 minute workout which is formatted as follows: Warm up Step combo #1 Weight segment #1 Step Combo #2 Weight Segment #2 Step Combo #3 Weight Segment #3 Stretch After the warm up you will go into your first step aerobic segment which features moves from videos past taught with a longer breakdown and more repetition than the other two upcoming step combos since you are just freshly out of the warm up. This segment is about 10 minutes long. Now your first weight segment will do squats with overhead presses and lunges with side and front lateral raises for approximately 5 minutes (light breaks in between). Step combo two is a little more complex than one but still on the level of intermediate. It again is about 10 minutes long and features moves from other videos. Weight segment two features lunges off the back of the step and then later bicep curls standing on the floor. The biceps curls end with a little balance option of doing them while standing on one leg. Step Combo #3, totaling about 8 minutes, is the same level of complexity as two but has more intensity added. Weight segment three includes deadrows and deadlifts and then moves onto dips and push ups before completing with a stretch.

Body Fusion format: warm up 6min, step combo one 8 min., weight segment one 4 min., step combo two 10 min., weight segment two 4 min., step combo three 9 min., weight segment three 6 min., Stretch 3 min., Total = 50 min.

Love this Initiation into Catheliation. October 26, 2012
Reviewer: Jyoti Shekhar from New Delhi, Delhi India
Learning to step is so much fun besides being good for the overall body conditioning and increasing stamina, without being streneous on the joints. The three step combos in this DVD are easy to learn and can be done again and again without getting bored. Simply change the order in which you do them. The way they are interwoven with strength training intervals is also another plus point...for any beginner/intermediate exerciser who wants to go one Notch up in fitness level. I noticed that my stamina and strength has got better and better with each stepping session.
Thid DVD is pure value for money for all people who are just starting out with cathe. It has Basic Stepping tutorial, Cardio steps and strength training. Besides, the Add ONs for lower body , upper body and Abs are fantastic on their own, or even better when combined with stepping sessions.
Go for it for a fantastic fitness journey.

My First Step workout October 15, 2012
Reviewer: Denise Lynn from LAS VEGAS, NV United States
I like change, but need fast paced to keep my attention. So,I decided I wanted to try stepping. While researching different DVD's I came across Cathe and I love it. Cathe is very encouraging and easy to understand. The part I like the most is she does everything right along with you. Most instructors don't. I'm still working on being a little more smooth in my moves, but boy am I working up a sweat. I love how she does cardio and then implements weights too. I  really love the body fusion. Now I'm ready to see what else Cathe has in store for me.

Not a step fan April 28, 2011
Reviewer: beatrice sanchez from chicago, IL United States
I'm sorry, but I'm just not a big fan of step workouts! I absolutely love Cathe's strength & toning workouts, which have made me a loyal fan of hers but the step is just not my cup of tea.

I still think that this is a bit too advanced for someone who is totally new to the step, but I guess if you keep doing it you will eventually get it. Maybe if I was actually good I would probably enjoy it but I'm more into cardio workouts like kickboxing, plyometrics, and bootcamp style workouts.

I would also suggest that once you master the strength exercises to use heavier weights.

Needing to stay active until all the snow is gone! March 18, 2011
Reviewer: MJW from Big Lake, MN United States
The long winter months here in Minnesota are taking a toll on me and my weight. I've owned a step for years just couldn't find a video that was easy to move along with. So I watched the basic step and body fusion on you tube first and decided to order it. Kind of spendy but it makes me break a sweat every time. I haven't seen a weight change yet but I've only had it a couple weeks. Great first time step video.. Thanks Cathe!

Helped me lose the baby weight! December 30, 2010
Reviewer: Anonymous Person from Troy, MI United States
After having my son and gaining 50 pounds, using this DVD 3-5 times a week helped me lose all of my baby weight in a few short months. Very simple but effective. Doesn't take longer than 30 minutes. Wasn't hard on my body at all, which was important after having a C-Section. Love this DVD!!
